BlackStar Branded Short Video Contest sponsored by Xfinity

To encourage new voices of color, BlackStar has partnered with long-time supporters Xfinity to host an online contest for the best branded short video, the winner of which will premiere at the 2019 BlackStar Film Festival.

Your video submission must be :60 seconds or less and can be shot on mobile or use emerging technologies. Your video should respond to the following prompt:

Internet, whether at home or on the go, keeps us connected to everything and everyone that’s important in our lives. Show us in your most creative sixty seconds or less the power and importance of Internet.

Winners will receive:

  • $2,500 cash prize
  • An all-expenses paid trip to Philadelphia to attend the 2019 BlackStar Film Festival and Awards Ceremony
  • Screening of their entry at the Awards Ceremony

What does it cost to enter?

There is no fee to submit your film to the contest.

When is the contest submission deadline?

The deadline to enter is July 20, 2019 at 11:59pm EST.

How long has the BlackStar x Infinity Branded Short Film Contest been in existence?

This is the first year of the contest.

What types of content are you looking for?

We are looking for projects demonstrating new and innovative forms of storytelling created by
underrepresented filmmakers who identify as people of color.

Are there any exclusions?

The film must be in English (or in Spanish with English subtitles) and must not contain any content or material that is lewd, obscene, sexually explicit, pornographic, disparaging, defamatory, libelous, obscene, violent, racist, derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group or otherwise inappropriate or objectionable, as determined by the Judges and/or Sponsor in their sole and absolute discretion.

What is the maximum length of short film that will be accepted?

Short films must be no longer than :60 second in length.

What submission formats do you accept?

All short films must be submitted via online link to Vimeo, YouTube, or DropBox and must be
shot with a minimum 1080p HD resolution.

Can you provide feedback on my film?

Due to the anticipated high number of submissions, we unfortunately cannot provide feedback on any entries.

Who can submit?

Please refer to the Official Rules for full eligibility requirements.

May I submit my project as a “rough cut?”

No. All submissions must be completed films.

When will winners be notified?

The Grand Prize winner will be notified on or about July 23, 2019 following the judging phase.

Trademarked Logos or Copyrighted Material in Films

Filmmakers should avoid any trademarked names or logos of images appearing in their shorts.
