Brownbag Lunch

with Sabrina Schmidt Gordon and Tahir Jetter

Accomplished filmmakers Sabrina Schmidt Gordon (BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez) and Tahir Jetter (How to Tell You’re a Douchebag) will discuss their training, work, and creative process with the BlackStar Youth Filmmakers. They will also share best practices for finding resources and additional training. Lunch will be provided.

Registration is required and limited to filmmakers 22 years of age and under.


About the Artists

Sabrina Schmidt Gordon

Sabrina has been editing and producing high-impact documentaries for more than 15 years and has distinguished herself with award-winning programs for film, television, and the web. Her editing debut won an Emmy for WGBH. She is the producer and editor of Documented, which was nominated for a 2015 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Documentary. Most recently, she co-directed, edited, and produced BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez.

Tahir Jetter

Tahir holds a BFA in film production from New York University. Close., his NYU thesis film, premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and went on to play at several other film festivals in addition to gaining over 100,000 views online. Hard Times, Tahir’s webseries, was distributed by Issa Rae Productions (headed by the creator of the hit series, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl) and has garnered over 120,000 views since its release in May of 2014. Tahir premiered his debut feature, How To Tell You’re A Douchebag, at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
