Where can I purchase passes?

All passes can be purchased at blackstarfest.org/tickets.

What kind of passes are available?

$5 Day Passes
$100 Festival Pass (includes donation to support BlackStar year-round programs)
$25 Festival Pass (available to BlackStar Members only)

How do I access the festival?

Once a pass is purchased, the customer will receive an email with a link to sign into watch.blackstarfest.org, where they will be able to stream all of this year’s films. All sales are final. No refunds or exchanges will be given. If you have any trouble using the ticketing system, please contact tickets@blackstarfest.org.

What access does my pass give me?

Day Pass holders will have access to all films playing within the platform on that particular day and only that day. To access additional days of the festival customers must buy additional Day Passes or one Festival Pass, which gives access to all seven days of the festival. Panels and other live events stream freely from our website, via the Schedule page.

Will I be able to watch films whenever I want?

No. This year’s films will play only once at their scheduled time. Please check blackstarfest.org/schedule for the most up to date information.

How do I access panels, BlackStar LIVE, and other events?

Online events, such as the BlackStar Live! morning show and any live panels, do not require online registration — with the exception of BlackStar Pitch. These events will be streamed freely from BlackStar’s Facebook page and our website, with the exception of our Opening and Closing Night Parties, which stream on our website and Twitch. Check the individual pages on the schedule for more information: blackstarfest.org/schedule.

BlackStar Pitch: The BlackStar Pitch Session on August 19th is a special event for invited guests only. A private URL will be made available to registered attendees only, who will be composed of Festival Pass holders, BlackStar members, and industry.

The Philly Drive-In: Three films this year, Be Water, The Forty-Year-Old Version, and Miss Juneteenth, are only playing at special in-person drive-in screenings organized in partnership with the City of Philadelphia Parks and Recreation department. These films will not be available on the streaming platform and require separate registration, a link to which can be found on each page.

A select few Special Events may be announced ahead of the festival and these events may have unique ticketing and admission policies. Please visit blackstarfest.org for the latest information.

Why does it say the “purchase maximum has been reached” on a pass?

Each registered email address is only able to purchase one of each type of pass in Elevent, so if you have already bought a types of pass you may see this message. If you feel you are receiving this message in error, please reach out to tickets@blackstarfest.org

I am a member, filmmaker, sponsor, press, or other guest looking to register for my pass. Where do I find it?

In order to register for a special pass, you must first give your email address to the BlackStar staff. Once you’ve done that, you can click “login/register” in the ticketing window, which you can access here. You must register for an account using the same email address provided to staff, and if you do, you should see your special pass appear after logging in. If you do not see that pass, please reach out to tickets@blackstarfest.org.

What is Elevent?

Elevent is the ticketing platform for this year’s BlackStar Film Festival. When you purchase tickets through blackstarfest.org you will receive a confirmation email from Elevent. You will also receive an activation email which will take you to the viewing platform, watch.blackstarfest.org. Once there, you must create a new account to begin watching.

What is CineSend?

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, BlackStar Film Festival has moved online in 2020. We are utilizing a platform called CineSend which gives viewers a high quality in-home cinematic experience while also providing MPAA-accredited DRM protection for our filmmakers.

Our online festival will mimic the experience of our in-person festival as much as possible, with films playing at set times according to the festival schedule. All films will play only once, at their scheduled time. Film programs will be followed by short Q+As with filmmakers, accessible to pass holders only through the CineSend platform.

What is Geoblocking?

A select few films have restrictions on where they can be viewed. Films only available to viewers in the United States and other U.S. occupied lands, including American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and United States Virgin Islands. See blackstarfest.org/tickets for the list.

I would like to buy multiple festival passes – how do I do that?

Since this year’s festival is almost entirely online, we’re taking additional steps to prevent piracy and protect the work of our filmmakers. As part of that process, only one of each type of pass is currently available to any one individual. This is because each time a pass is purchased, the email address of the purchaser is attached to that pass, which helps ensure that films are not being widely shared.

It is possible to make large group purchases, but eligibility will be determined on a case-by-case basis. If approved, we will require a list of all the email addresses to attach to each pass at the time of purchase. Please email tickets@blackstarfest.org to make this request and for more information.

Why am I unable to stream certain films?
A select few films have restrictions on where they can be viewed and on the amount of passholders who will be able to screen them.

Geographically-Restricted

Films only available to viewers in the United States and other U.S. occupied lands, including American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and United States Virgin Islands.

Limited Capacity

Films restricted to the first 500 passholders who press play at the scheduled screening time.

Special Events

These screenings have unique ticketing processes and may not be available to all viewers. Please check the individual pages for more information.
