Sydney Alicia Rodriguez

Program Manager

Hailing from the DMV (Washington, D.C. metropolitan area), Sydney Alicia Rodriguez is an Afrolatinx producer and filmmaker interested in getting free by way of resourcing Black and Brown storytellers. They recognize the importance of narrative change and imagination, particularly when reckoning with the past and reimagining the future.

After completing several internships at MACRO, BET, and Essence Communications, Inc., Sydney joined MTV’s original franchise programming team in 2018 where they developed shows such as The Real WorldWild ‘N Out, and Jersey Shore. They then transitioned to Aubin Pictures in 2020 where they worked at the intersection of independent documentary film and social justice. Sydney comes to BlackStar Projects after three years of working on BlackStar Film Festival in different capacities including community outreach and serving as a producer of the first season of BlackStar Live!.

Sydney has been an avid student of the theater for over ten years. Prior to their work in film, they produced, directed and starred in plays as an undergraduate student. They graduated in 2018 from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where they studied Marketing and Africana Studies.
