Join us on Thursday March 5 at 5:30pm at Ninth Street Independent Film Center in San Francisco, CA for a short film program and reception curated by BlackStar, hosted in partnership with BAVC Media and the Bay Area Media Maker Summit (BAMMS).

Curated by BlackStar Festival Director Nehad Khader, this film program brings together a collection of works by Bay Area-based filmmakers and their experiments in texture. Each work employs a visual and emotional negotiation of space, with layered storytelling techniques giving voice to unexpected insights. The screening will be followed by a brief Q&A with some of the featured filmmakers moderated by BlackStar program manager Sydney Alicia Rodriguez.

The post-screening reception features filmmaker-artist Rashid Zakat’s Revival!, a live audio-visual meditation that celebrates the visual and sonic culture of shared Black spiritual experiences. Through a combination of music and live video, Revival! activates a relationship between the audience and the work which invites joy, ecstasy and humor to invoke a transcendental social experience.

Please note that admission to the screening program is first come, first served.

Doors open at 5:30pm.
Film Program begins at 6pm.
Revival begins at 7pm.

Venue information:

The venue is accessible for people using wheelchairs and other mobility aids. There are two accessible gender neutral restrooms. All the films screened will have closed captioning.

With recent spikes in COVID in the Bay Area, we advise all attendees to be considerate of others and stay home if they are feeling ill. While masks will not be mandatory, we recommend wearing one inside the screening room and will have masks available at the event.
