BlackStar Film Festival is an annual celebration of the visual and storytelling traditions of the African diaspora and of global communities of color, showcasing films by Black, Brown and Indigenous people from around the world.
BlackStar is seeking a WEB MANAGER to work closely with the communications team on the maintenance of the festival website and to ensure a pleasant user experience on our website during the festival. The Web Manager will report to the Marketing Manager and Design Manager.
Responsibilities Include:
Manages the full festival website, including creating and uploading content, editing text as necessary, and troubleshooting technical issues.
Works closely with the festival program team to ensure accurate information is available on the festival website in an easily accessible way.
Assists with the maintenance of the virtual platform, including real-time editing and updating of content as needed.
Liaises between the web developer, festival venues, and virtual platform services to ensure the ticketing system functions well.
Maintains a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional attitude to promote a positive festival experience.
Attends daily morning all-staff meetings during the festival.
Skills Required:
Strong technical knowledge of WordPress, html, and Eventive.
Intermediate knowledge or greater of graphic design apps like InDesign.
Proactive, self-starter with excellent organizational skills and superior attention to detail.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work with artists, audiences, colleagues, and stakeholders with positivity and professionalism.
Ability to make sound decisions in a deadline-oriented environment.
Ability to work as a team member and/or work independently and take initiative as appropriate.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to act quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation & Schedule:
Compensation is $5,500 for administrative duties, meetings, and other festival work. This is a contracted position working May 4, 2026 to August 11, 2026, with some evenings and weekends required. This is a hybrid (remote and in-person) position with online meetings through July, and requires in-person attendance at the festival from August 6–9, 2026. The individual in this role is expected to work approximately 7 hours per week before the festival, 40 hours total during the festival, and 1 hour total after the festival for a virtual debrief meeting. Preference for Philadelphia-area candidates.
